Day 1 of 13
We began our RV journey at 7:45AM
-Made it out of our road which is a feat in itself. No emergencies so far and Brown has tightened things down in the back so there’s barely a rattle!
One thing he worked really hard on fixing was the drawers which would come flying out at every curve – at risk for knives and forks shooting out at every turn so we were glad his fix worked…
On our way to Guadalupe Mountain National Park tonight. We hiked to the top of El Capitan in 2003 – I was just a young thing then and could barely make it to the top – took 4 hours in a fierce headwind. Brown kept telling me to push forward and I informed him I was pushing but with that headwind I was getting no where fast. When we finally made it to the top there was a metal box with a guest book inside – the box had a latch because and was bolted to the mountain. Otherwise it would have been in Honduras or points south. We managed to sign the book and then I promptly used my brick cell phone to call my brother to come get me. I was NOT going to walk down that mountain – my legs were like spaghetti noodles at that point. Well, of course, he was in a meeting and could not rescue me…So I had to side step the whole way down – another four hours…😩. But I did it. And I was really looking forward to a good night’s sleep in our tent…however…about 2 am that fierce wind settled in over our tent and started flapping our tent on our heads. Being the military hero he is, Brown got up and tried to wrestle the tent back into some semblance of a tent and tie various parts to trees.
This time we are returning with 4 tons of vehicle, a bathroom, a TV, proper beds, a fridge and oven. And maybe Wi-Fi…but really looking forward to being back there and saying “been there done that” to that mountain!
