Guadalupe to Carlsbad Caverns
We walked through Carlsbad Caverns this morning going 3.7 miles of downhill switchbacks. But totally worth it! Really otherworldly experience – reminded me of our journey to Antarctica…
In 1898 a teenager discovered this cave using a homemade wire ladder. The cave is accessible to 750 feet down so we walked down the equivalent of a 75 story building of switchbacks (not sure which is harder, stairs or switchbacks).
October 17 – 20 Carlsbad to Ruidoso
We drove on to Ruidoso and settled in at Rainbow Lake RV Resort. Took it easy the first day – drove to Cloud Croft for lunch at The Lodge. Lovely estate that was built in the early days of the railroads. Here is Brown relaxing by the entrance.
Then on to White Sands National Park – 275 square miles of gypsum sand – the world’s largest gypsum sand dune field. It can be seen from space. Kids were sledding down the dunes – made us think of Taylor who would have definitely been one of those kids!
October 20 – Onward to Santa Fe
/Our first morning of 2 – having lunch on the Plaza – lovely day and musicians playing in the center of the plaza
